Biography
MC Precious is a hip hop artist from Chicago, Illinois. Active since the 1980s, she is regarded as one of the first women to break into the Chicago hip hop scene. Known for her lyrical strength, early radio performances, and affiliation with the Windy City Posi collective, she was an influential voice in underground hip hop.
Early Life
She was raised on the South Side of Chicago near 102nd and Normal Avenue. Originally drawn to house music, she transitioned to hip hop after being inspired by pioneering artists such as Roxanne Shanté and UTFO. She began writing and rapping during her high school years.
Career
WHPK Radio and Local Recognition
MC Precious gained attention after performing freestyles on WHPK-FM, a community radio station at the University of Chicago. Introduced by Nick Love to DJ Chilly Q, she became a recurring presence on air, noted for her powerful delivery and technical prowess.
Windy City Posi
She joined the Windy City Posi collective alongside artists like Low B and Low Ski. The group emphasized lyrical integrity and Chicago’s street storytelling traditions, contributing significantly to the local scene.
