The Chicago Hip-Hop History Project: Inclusion Criteria

The initial population of subjects included in the encyclopedia came from four sources:

• JMD and Zamir's collage poster, which includes figures from 1978 - 2020, accessed at the Chicago Hip-Hop Heritage Museum, which includes 155 names.

• The WHPK-FM Hip-Hop Hall of Fame Plaque in the archives of the Chicago Hip-Hop Heritage Museum which lists 301 names.

• Toxic's music video for the song "Cold", which chronicles the history of Chicago hip-hop and lists hundreds of names, 392 names have so far been evaluated for entry into the encyclopedia.

• DaWreck's 'The List', circa 2018.

• Wikipedia articles categorized under
  • "Rappers from Chicago", which included 142 names.
  • American breakdancers, which included 1 name.
  • American graffiti artists, which included 1 name.
  • DJs from Chicago, which included 3 names.
