Redd Foxx

John Elroy Sanford (December 9, 1922 - October 11 1991), professionally known as Redd Foxx, was an actor from Chicago, Illinois. Gaining popularity in the 1950s and 1960s, he released a series of comedic albums noted for their explicit content, which earned him the nickname "King of the Party Records." Foxx's style helped shape modern stand-up by pushing the boundaries of comedy during that era.

He gained national recognition in the 1970s for his role as Fred G. Sanford on the television sitcom Sanford and Son, which depicted African American working-class life. The character became widely known for his humorous catchphrases and Foxx's distinctive delivery.

Following the success of Sanford and Son, Foxx appeared in other television programs, including The Redd Foxx Comedy Hour and The Royal Family. Despite personal and financial challenges later in life, he remained a notable figure in entertainment. Foxx passed away in 1991 while rehearsing on set, a moment often recalled in connection with his famous on-screen line, “This is the big one!” His legacy endures through his contributions to comedy and his influence on future generations of performers.
